I love a good workplace thriller, and a compelling heroine with pluck, and a mystery that doesn't involve the usual cops and detectives (instead, the mystery is being solved by the above-mentioned plucky heroine who's a news producer) and has a dash of noir to it, and a feminist sensibility that is distinct but doesn't hit you over the head. In short, I really enjoyed this one.A caveat: The first thirty pages or so are doing a lot of establishing (of characters, of setting, of the mystery itself) and sometimes that can lead to some awkward prose. It also suffers from one really ironic proofreading error that amused me: the phrase "with sickening frequency" appears twice in one paragraph, i.e. "with sickening frequency" occurred with sickening frequency. But the reason I'm mentioning this is because I want to make sure readers persevere, since this book is so worth it.
