Kenzie Gilmore Crime Thriller: Heatwave - Mystery Novel for Book Clubs

Heatwave is the 3rd Episode in the Kenzie Gilmore Crime Thriller series and like the 1st two of Biba Pearce’s fast-pace, action-packed, and mesmerizing tales in this series this one is a must read.The only thing I am not excited about this author’s work is that she uses so many characters that I literally had to keep a score card with notes trying to remember who they all are. For this reason, I recommend that readers do the same and that they read this series in chronological order to remember the ongoing characters and the developing storyline. Additionally, I have noticed that the author is using more profanity in this book than I remember seeing in the first two books.That said, this was a very entertaining thriller that was really hard to put down. Besides protagonists Kenzie Gilmore, the chief crime investigative writer with a growing staff for the Miami Herald Newspaper and Reid Garrett, a retired former detective for the Miami Police Department and now a Lieutenant in charge to a small yet reforming Sweetwater Police Department with a growing reputation, there are plenty of bad guys and twisting plots to keep the reader engrossed.Set in Miami, Florida, early on, while Kenzie is investigating the distribution and death of teenagers who died after taking deadly drugs, she becomes involved in an investigation into why a high school student, Mattea Davis was murdered. He is portrayed as a bad young man and drug dealer; however, his girlfriend says he was neither and was framed. That investigation further develops when Kenzie learns that a dirty patrol officer, Bill Hodge, was forcing, by threatening extended parole sentencing of teenage boys under his charge to become pedophile victims at parties organized by rich and powerful men.In the meantime, Reid Garrett is trying to bring down Alberto Torres, aka Alex Guerra, who is running longtime and expanding Mexican drug cartel kingpin, Federico Lopez’s, business in Florida.I recommend this intriguing tale to those who enjoy this genre. It is truly a top crime thriller that is well-written, entertaining, and enjoyable.
