Description

A scientific expedition in the Atlantic Ocean becomes lost in the Bermuda Triangle and washes up on an uncharted island. They meet up with travellers from other times, planets and dimensions who have also become trapped, and together they “slide” through portals from one dimension to the next hoping to find the one that leads home. A short lived cult series, Fantastic Journey spawned a whole sub-genre of American science fiction television such as Quantum Leap and Sliders.

About the DVD: This product was produced by an Australian distributor and will NOT playback in US or Canadian (Region 1) players. Although Australia is Region 4, the discs playback fine in my Region 2 (UK etc.) player. I watched all 10 episodes and had no issues.About the show: I was 12 when Fantastic Journey first aired and hadn’t seen it since 1977. I loved it back then and so there is an enormous nostalgia factor at play for me but all these years later I’m really impressed with the quality of the show! It seems to have had a fairly decent budget for sets and costume design and the stories and scripts are quite good. Star Trek fans will immediately recognize D.C Fontana’s contribution as the story editor. The cast is rock solid (you can’t miss the major retooling that followed the premiere episode) and the guest stars (Joan Collins, Cheryl Ladd to name two) are varied and interesting. As a fun extra, being an NBC show you’ll enjoy spotting the recycled sound effects from both Star Trek and I Dream of Jeannie!About the image quality: Overall the video quality is very good to excellent (for a DVD) however there is one episode that has more print damage than the others (sorry, I can’t recall which one). Beyond that one episode I’m very pleased with the image quality and grateful to be able to see this interesting and entertaining show again!
