Description

Welcome to my all new DVD Thriller, which, as the name suggests, is all about thrills at the wheel. Aston Martin’s gentleman thug, the DBS, takes on its rivals from Italy. The lightweight Lamborghini Superleggera battles it out on the track with Ferrari’s 430 Scuderia and my test of the best takes me to the breathtaking roads of the Swiss Alps, the no limits German autobahn – and, er, Norfolk. I swap racing overalls for camouflage uniform to join the Marines at the controls of an all-terrain Viking before using its machine gun to shoot a Lexus…in the face. The 200 mph Porsche 911 turbo struts its stuff in its natural habitat – the autobahn. And I get a lungful of turbocharged fresh air from the 240 mph Pagani Zonda Roadster F. Then there’s the rocket science – Clarkson-style – as I fit a Porsche 944 with rocket launchers (they only look like drainpipes wrapped in silver foil). I also blast fireworks at a speed camera and have a bit of an accident with a double-decker bus. I drop a 7-tonne diesel engine on to a Highways Agency traffic-womble car – doing my bit to tidy the roads…while creating the world’s fastest diesel. Plus I’m joined by tame racing driver The Stig who gets a big surprise – as do you when you see what he likes to do with sheep. And everything else explodes. Enjoy…..

OK here we have UK motoring journalist and TV personality Jeremy Clarkson finding another reason to burn around beautiful locations in cars you'll never be able to afford. The man does have an engaging style and boyish enthusiasm for motorised fun and hijinks. Which comes in handy as the audience spends over 75 minutes watching him scoot about race tracks in Lamborghinis and Porsches and whatever else looks sleek and uninsurable. The premise here is that he is seeking thrills. Not necessarily perfection, but thrills. Which is why he extols the virtues of a Ferrari that is more difficult and fun to drive than a Lamborghini which is easier to drive, albeit darn near as fast around a track. It is also why he praises another anonymous Mercedes AMG variant which while not in possession of an obscene top speed is a very tail happy and a hell of a lot of fun to drive on twisty alpine roads. In the final analysis this is a fun DVD for the Top Gear fan near you. Clarkson is his usual enthusiastic self and the cars are very very pretty. There are all the usual time trials, drag races and such. And also some humour as Clarkson tries things other than supercars in order to get a thrill like dropping a large diesel engine on a safety vehicle, burning around in one of those funky Swedish made snow warfare vehicles AND gets to blaze away with its machine gun alongside some British Royal Marines in an effort to kill a very boring car he deemed worthy of the punishment.
