Description

"An impressive feat of writing that combines imagination, empathy, and a rock-hard edge — and never fails in its duty to maintain the ratcheting tension of a first-rate thriller." — The Sunday Times (U.K.)Jenny Aaron was the best of the best. An expert marksman and trained in four martial arts techniques, she was the star member of an elite team charged with tracking Germany's most dangerous criminals. But when a disastrous mission ended in irreversible blindness, Jenny was forced to abandon her dangerous career. Five years later, she's still haunted by her failure when she is called upon to investigate the brutal murder of a prison psychologist. Now she must test the new skills that she's acquired in her world of darkness — but are they enough to battle a ruthless killer whose intelligence and daring match her own?"I learnt so much about blindness that is not only inspirational but deeply moving. A rare and magnificent book." — Ken Bruen, author of The Guards and The Killing of the Tinkers, winner of The Shamus Award and Edgar Allan Poe Award finalist"Better than Bond." — Die Zeit“Gripping and action-packed. A tough thriller with a fascinating heroine. You won't be able to put this down.” — Krimi“For everyone who loves The Silence of the Lambs. Jenny Aaron is the blind Sherlock Holmes.” — Stefan Ahnhem, internationally bestselling author of the Fabian Risk thrillers

This was not a common thriller. Pflueger's style went under my skin. It is breathtakingly close to my own heartbeat and once I got really into it he didn't let me take a brake for a moment. The characters live lifes you simply never even want to dream about so horrible their world is like, yet because of his choice of words discribing sounds, sights, the feelings and thoughts of the few people involved you notice they think and feel , same speed, same hope, and then you cant put the book down. If you go down the stairs and play with your kids in the living room straight afterwards you are incredibly hard backed.I had to put the book down three times, right from the start it grabbed me with an intensity I have not come across before ( reading thrillers over some years now) and I did not want to be for a moment in this world so exactly opened up by the author. If you think your way through life as opposed to consume numbly, the details read in the book, the only questions asked that matter , where truly grounding. It made me take stock, made me think what is important.Years ago it took me one year to read Joyce's Ulysses in german and english it took me a year and three re- reads of large parts of the book to get through to the end. It's was horrible and real, I give it 5 stars without hesitation, I will read it many times over , perhaps to feel at home being human.
