Afterburn: Kenzie Gilmore Crime Thriller - Gripping Mystery for Book Lovers

After Burn is author Biba Pearce’s first novel in her Kenzie Gilmore crime series. Although I had never read anything by this author before, I enjoyed this fast-paced, action-packed thriller so much that I did not stop to review this episode until I was already engrossed in the third book in the series.This author really knows how to grab the readers interest at the onset and not let go until the very satisfying ending.Set in Miami, Kenzie Gilmore, a Miami Herald Crime Reporter was assigned to investigate a serial killer known as the Swamp Killer because he tortured and murdered at least 3 out of 4 pretty ladies one at a time and dumped their bodies in the Everglades for the alligators to get rid of the evidence.Reid Garrett is an ex-cop with the Miami police department who has grown discussed with women’s bodies showing up in the Everglades where he lives. He and Gillmore set out on a mission to find, stop, and bring this evil killer to justice and prevent him from attacking anymore women.While I found it extremely difficult to put this book down, I have to admit that I had to keep a score card to document the vast number of characters the author used in this first book. It was a bit overwhelming at times trying not to confuse character’s names and occupation. Further the author often referred to many of the characters by either their first or last name throughout the book making it difficult to connect the first and last name of the same character.For that reason, I recommend that the reader not only read this series in the order they were written, but also takes some notes, because many of the characters take part in later books in the series.There are three main parts to this book. One deals with the serial killer. Another tries to determine if one of the murders was committed by a copycat trying to make it look like a crime committed by the Swamp Killer. The final plot of the tale deals with scam artists connected to a drug cartel that rips of people thinking they are dealing with a reputable financial firm.If you are looking for an Intriguing, murder mystery that will keep you glued to your easy chair mesmerized by an engrossing tale, THIS IS IT!Enjoy!
