“Hums with tension. . . .Think Deliverance, toss in some terrorists, and make the backwoods guy the hero. Memorable.” —BooklistFifteen miles off the coast of New Brunswick, Canada, a Soviet-era diesel submarine off-loads four men before being intercepted by a U.S. Navy vessel patrolling the area. The men make up a team of al-Qaeda-trained specialists skilled in the black arts of terrorist warfare and are headed by a man who has billions of dollars in oil money with which to indulge his murderous fantasies. What they do next will determine the fates of thousands of Americans.Rod Eliot, an aging ex-con turned survival expert, stands between them and one of the most devastating plots ever hatched by the deviated mind of a killer: to blow up the five-mile-long Mackinac Bridge and detonate enough plutonium to contaminate the area for decades. When an encounter with the bomb-toting terrorists occurs deep in the woods of the Upper Peninsula, Eliot finds himself in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with no alternative but to go head-to-head with these murderers. Rod may be the only person who can stop them. But he’s in over his head.Due to Eliot’s checkered past, law enforcement officials have him pegged for the crimes that unfold over the next few days. Only one, a seasoned FBI agent who is on his trail, thinks Eliot is innocent and is willing to prove it.Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade, Yucca, and Good Books imprints, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in fiction—novels, novellas, political and medical thrillers, comedy, satire, historical fiction, romance, erotic and love stories, mystery, classic literature, folklore and mythology, literary classics including Shakespeare, Dumas, Wilde, Cather, and much more. Interesting scenario of al quada terrorists using a dirty bomb on the soft target of the Mackinac Bridge. Have lived in the straits area for 26 years, so was very familiar with locations from the Soo to Paradise to Saint Ignace and mackinaw city areas. Ending sucked as Rod was killed by a MSP sniper at Mackinaw city lighthouse after shooting the psychopath Aziz before he could detonate 2nd dirty bomb. Also, author is a survival expert so will use his methods to control mosquito bites with plants.Anyway, read comments that bridge walk in book started in Mackinaw City. In last couple years, bridge walk could occur from either end of bridge. Walkers could walk entire 5 miles or go to middle and turn around. Busses would not be running, so people had to leave vehicles in Mackinaw city or Saint Ignace to get back to.As for the bridge itself, have seen the catwalk under bridge and you got to have nerves of steel, to work on maintenance or painting during strong wind gusts up to 50-60 mph. Liked that it took from September to March to repair bomb blast in center of Bridge. In real life, it would take years to fix damage.Anyway, excellent read for us yoopers and trolls in tip of the mitt.
